Winding down …

…my live performance schedule for 2011 with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at One World Theatre tonight.

Though BBVdD is a pure-play swing gig more than a standards outing, I can’t resist catching these guys while they’re in Austin-town. When I was about 10 years old, my dad weaned me onto Sinatra, Dean Martin and the standards genre with a steady diet of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman … hey, you never leave your roots baby!

2011 was a great Live Performance year!

Kicked it off with fine, young Nikki Yanofsky … then the somewhat less young but certainly fun and talented John Pizzarelli; Michael Feinstein’s outstanding Sinatra Project Tour, and a double dose of “Cool” with Summer and Fall Steve Tyrell gigs. Wrapping with BBVdD tonight (unless we slip something in “last minute” in December) rounds out a fun and diverse year.

Starting early in 2012…

We’re coming out of the chute early with Bobby Caldwell in January (again at the fabulous and intimate One World Theatre). I’ve been looking forward to snagging a Caldwell gig for a few years so this will be a great birthday present — can’t wait!

Still sizing up the rest of 2012 (and waiting for some artists to publish tour plans) but my goal at a minimum is to finally catch up Peter Cincotti this year … to intercept Bublé again (seen him a couple of times but it’s been a few years … his big venue gigs just aren’t quite as fun, but it’s time) … I want to stay on track with Yanofsky, Feinstein and Pizzarelli (sounds like a bad law firm) … meet some new folks (new to me) like Jonny Blu, Stacey Kent, Tony Desare, Robert Davi, Jamie Cullum … and of course keep up my cool treatments with Mr. Tyrell. It’s gonna be fun!
